Koh Phi Phi Islands
Get to Know Koh Phi Phi Islands
The Phi Phi Islands are some of the most famous in Thailand—and for good reason. Think turquoise bays, dramatic limestone cliffs, and postcard-perfect beaches. It's a place where you can snorkel with colorful fish in the morning and watch the sunset from a beach bar in the evening.
Although Phi Phi Don has a lively side, there are still quiet corners to escape to. The islands are great for couples, solo travelers, and small groups who want a mix of adventure, swimming, snorkeling, and stunning views.
Why Visit Koh Phi Phi Islands?
The Phi Phi Islands are one of Thailand’s most iconic destinations—and once you see them, you’ll understand why. The mix of towering limestone cliffs, emerald lagoons, and white sand beaches is simply unforgettable.
It’s not just about the views. You can snorkel with tropical fish, explore hidden coves, and relax on beaches that feel straight out of a movie. (In fact, Maya Bay was the backdrop for The Beach.)
While the main village on Phi Phi Don is lively, many of the best spots—like Bamboo Island and Pileh Lagoon—are quiet, peaceful, and perfect for a private boat trip. If you want nature, adventure, and a bit of that tropical island magic, this is the place.

Location
The Koh Phi Phi Islands are located in the Andaman Sea, off the coast of southern Thailand. They’re part of Krabi Province, but sit about 40–45 kilometers offshore between Krabi and Phuket.
The island group consists of six islands, each with its own character:
- Phi Phi Don
– The largest and only inhabited island. This is where you’ll find hotels, beach bars, restaurants, and the main village. Boats arrive at Tonsai Pier.
- Phi Phi Leh
– Uninhabited and protected as part of Hat Noppharat Thara–Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park. It’s home to Maya Bay, Pileh Lagoon, and Viking Cave—all must-see spots.
- Bamboo Island (Ko Mai Phai)
– A small, flat island with powdery white sand and crystal-clear water. Perfect for swimming, snorkeling, or relaxing.
- Mosquito Island (Ko Yung)
– A rocky island known for snorkeling (but not for lounging). No beaches here—just coral reefs and dramatic scenery.
- Bida Nok & Bida Nai – Two limestone islets just south of Phi Phi Leh. Great for diving and snorkeling, often included in dive trips.
The islands are surrounded by deep blue water, coral reefs, and dramatic limestone cliffs, making them one of the most scenic spots in all of southern Thailand.
How to Get to Koh Phi Phi Islands
The only way to reach the Phi Phi Islands is by boat—there’s no airport or road access. But once you’re on the water, the ride is part of the adventure.
From Krabi:
- Speedboat – The fastest and most flexible option. It takes about
45 minutes from Ao Nang or Nopparat Thara Pier.
- Ferry – A slower but cheaper alternative. Around
1.5 to 2 hours from Krabi Town.
From Phuket:
- Speedboat – Around
1 hour depending on weather and departure point.
- Ferry – Usually
2 hours, and more affected by sea conditions.
Most of our private tours to Phi Phi depart from Ao Nang or Railay. We can pick you up directly from your hotel and handle everything from start to finish—no need to worry about ferry tickets or schedules.
Tip: Seas are calmer in the dry season (Nov–April), which makes for a smoother ride.

Best Time to Visit Koh Phi Phi Islands
The Phi Phi Islands are open year-round, but some months are definitely better than others—especially if you're planning a boat tour.
Best time: November to April
This is the dry season, with clear skies, calm seas, and great visibility for snorkeling. It’s also peak season, so expect more visitors and higher prices—but the weather makes it worth it.
Low season: May to October
You’ll find fewer crowds and lower hotel rates, but also more rain and rougher seas. Some days are still beautiful, but boat trips can get cancelled if the weather turns.
Local tips:
- Morning tours are best for calm water and fewer crowds.
- Avoid weekends if you want to skip the domestic tourist rush.
- Sunset tours are stunning from February to April when skies are clearest.
Tips Before You Go
The Phi Phi Islands are beautiful, but a little planning goes a long way—especially if you're visiting on a day trip.
- Pack light. Bring a dry bag, sunscreen, hat, towel, and reef-safe sunscreen.
- Wear swimwear under your clothes. There are limited changing areas on some islands.
- Bring cash. Some places on Phi Phi Don accept cards, but not all.
- Respect the rules at Maya Bay. No swimming, no drones, and no stepping on coral or dunes.
- Don’t feed the monkeys. It might seem fun, but it’s bad for them—and not always safe for you.
- Leave no trace. Bring everything you take, especially plastic bottles and packaging.
Phi Phi is part of a national park, so please help keep it clean and beautiful for the next visitors.
